The Williams Lab
The Williams Lab at UC-Berkeley studies the evolutionary consequences of seasonality - specifically, on the performance and fitness of insects. Their goal is to nurture the diversity of life by studying the natural world. When the lab’s PI, Dr. Caroline Williams, first approached us about the project, she explained:
“It was time to update my website, which I largely made myself on WordPress. When I saw Dr. Shane Campbell-Staton’s cool website launch, I wanted one like that for myself.”
We worked with Caroline on a new brand and website for her lab that harnessed the power of her transformative work and built on the beautiful physical and seasonal transformations of her study species. As Caroline explains,
“Working with IML was fun and collaborative. The ideas and concept formation was the best part - finding new ways to frame the ideas we work on to make them broadly applicable and interesting, even to non-scientists. I highly recommend Kika and her team!”

THE BRAND
elegant, academic, timeless
The Williams Lab studies fundamental questions about environmental and physiological change. The biggest inspiration for the brand was the beauty of seasonality and the power of transformation across life stages. For this project, we created logo and icon series that help capture what we love so much about this lab’s important work. We hope you agree, the new brand is timeless in its presentation of the work - both vintage and modern, academic and approachable, classic and fresh.
