Niwot LTER | Website design + brand strategy
The Project:
Client:
The LTER site at Niwot Ridge has a lot to be proud of – one of the longest-running CO2 datasets in the country, more than 35 years of research including several decades-long experiments, important contributions to our understanding of snowmelt and climate change, and much, much more. But their outdated website did little to reflect their productivity and groundbreaking work.
Goals:
We wanted to build a brand to attract and engage the Boulder community, to help them understand the work happening at the LTER site and why it’s so valuable. For this website, we focused on databasing the past achievements of Niwot (from children’s books to publications), building some new integrations to showcase their activities (like live web cams and a searchable database), and generally creating an online presence that harnesses the power of the amazing people and projects happening there.
our approach
The challenge for this website was figuring out how to present massive amounts of information in a way that is elegant and intuitive. To keep the important information at the forefront, and move the databasing / more specific information to the back. And to develop new tools, like calendars, forms, and digital databases, that streamline processes like submitting data, managing publications, and organizing meetings across the network of LTER researchers. It was a fun design challenge, and I hope you love the results as much as we do!
