website design + brand strategy

Dryland Ecology & Management Lab

In an era of rapid global change, Dr. Carrie Havrilla’s work to make dryland ecosystems more resilient is critical.

Carrie reached out to Impact Media Lab for help upgrading the Dryland Ecology & Management Lab’s website, to ensure her site was as high-performing as her research program. As Carrie explains:

My website needed a refresh to make it more functional. I was specifically interested in a design that had a logical flow of information that was accessible both to academic and manager audiences.

In addition to building her website, we wanted to design a new brand for Carrie’s lab to help bring her science to life. Our goal was to create a visual voice as compelling, compassionate, and conservation-minded as her lab, and we couldn’t be happier with the results!

Explore this gorgeous new brand and website, which draws heavily from the dryland landscapes of the West and was an absolute blast to build. As Carrie wrote:

Working with IML was a dream! As a new PI, my time was limited, and IML made the process of website design fun and easy. They provided a lot of guidance about optimizing our site’s design to make it more user friendly. I really enjoyed the fact that IML listened to my vision and goals for the process and incorporated my comments into all products.

who we are

THE BRAND

exciting, approachable, and conservation-minded

The biggest inspiration for the brand was the dryland landscapes of the West, which are a huge part of the mission of the lab. We used warm, rich earth tones and custom floral illustrations to nurture feelings of conservation, compassion, and care.
