Climate Action Lab
website + brand design
The Climate Action Lab
The Climate Action Lab is a policy-engaged research group based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They use energy and environmental data, systems modeling, and policy analysis to create equitable and inclusive solutions to the climate crisis.
Like many scientists, Dr. Morgan Edwards wanted a powerful website for her new lab, but was struggling to find the time to make it happen. As she explains,
“As a new PI, I wanted to build not just a website but a brand for my lab. I also wanted a single site that spoke to multiple audiences — from prospective students to researchers to community partners.”
We worked with Morgan to design a new brand and website for the Climate Action Lab that celebrates their important research and offers hope for our transition to better energy systems.
Because Morgan was in the process of launching her new lab, we used her website as an opportunity to develop her ideas and priorities for her research program. As Morgan explains,
“Designing a website with Impact Media Lab was a great way to think about the big picture — who we are as a lab and what our work is about — in a structured and tangible way. Kika really took the time to get to know my lab and worked to create something that felt uniquely us.”

THE BRAND for the lab
ambitious, friendly, optimistic
The biggest inspiration for the brand is sunrise, which symbolizes hope, optimism, and a fresh start to the day. Building a new energy future needs all of these things, and the Climate Action Lab is here to facilitate the fresh start to energy systems that we’re all hoping for. The colors for the brand are warm and grounded, to convey feelings of optimism, compassion, and stewardship.
